Research:

Recent research activity within the Satellite and Terestrial Telecommunications is now focusing on the guaranteed quality of service delivery and allocation of variable resources for Ka/V band fixed satellite links.

Other research activities are studying the performance of wireless network system in the presence of indoor propagation impairments.

Teaching:

The department benefits from Opnet Modeler running on Quad Core Dell Precision Workstations. Useful addon modules included as well are the Wireless Module and the Terrain Modelling Module. OPNET is used as the main software platform for the study of, simulation, and analysis of communication networks for the following taught units:

In particular, OPNET modeler is used in the lab experiments associated to the lectures and for development of solutions for coursework assignments.

Final Year Projects

Fixed, Wireless and Mobile Communication networks are best analysed by computer simulation.  This also gives the opportunity for our students to master their knowledge of OPNET.

Postgraduate Projects

Msc Level students are often required to undertake demanding projects in the field of Network Design Planning and Management or Wireless telecommunications. Some examples of such projcects can be seen here:
